15 Sep HONOURS AWARD FOR ALTON PHILANDER

At the Annual General meeting of the Western Province Motor Club on Thursday 10 September 2020, an Honours Award was bestowed on Alton Philander in recognition of his many years of service to the Club and its members.
He is seen here with WPMC Chairman Gavin Cerff (right) at the awards ceremony in the Adrian Pheiffer Lounge during the Power Series event presented by Wingfield Motors and Kfm 94.5 on Saturday 12 September.
Alton Philander was asked to provide towing services for Main-Circuit events at Killarney in 2008, which became the start of a 12-year continuous history of service to the Western Province Motor Club.
Since then his role at Killarney has expanded to include vehicle recovery services at Main-Circuit racing events, Drag Racing, Robot Racing, Street2Strip, Club rallycross and World Rallycross events.
He has also organised and co-ordinated the transport of World Rallycross cars to the Waterfront and back for the publicity event preceding each World Rallycross event held at Killarney.
In 2014, he took over the maintenance of the WPMC Marshals’ fire bakkies and in 2018 he became responsible for the maintenance of all the vehicles at Killarney, a position he holds to this day.
From 2016 to date he has also served as a scrutineer at Main Circuit events, Drag Racing and Streetcar Track Days, as well as assisting with the maintenance of circuit safety infrastructure, in particular tyre barriers.
For his dedicated service, the WPMC bestows an Honours Award on Alton Philander.
