MEMORIAL RUN PAYS TRIBUTE TO MORGAN SMITH
Drag Racing is usually a noisy affair, but an eerie silence fell over the Killarney Drag Strip during the lunch break of the MSA Drag Racing event on Saturday 26 February as family, friends and competitors honoured the memory of Morgan Smith, 27, who died of injuries sustained when he was knocked off his motorcycle just four days earlier.
After a number of heartfelt tributes to a universally like and respected member of the Killarney family and a minute’s silence that seemed to go on for much longer than 60 seconds, a procession of race and road cars followed the trailer carrying Morgan’s Golf down the strip at a respectful 40km/h, to where the marshals waited at the finish line to give the final salute.
Our hearts go out to his fiance Eirin and their son Jensen; we will not forget.
