30 Jan PASSION FOR SPEED IS NOT A PARADE; EXPECT FIREWORKS
Passion for Speed, sponsored by G-Energy, is not only about classic cars, it also features legendary drivers of yesteryear, some of whom come out of retirement each year just for this event.
Among the most iconic of these South Africans is Sarel ‘SuperVan’ van der Merwe, winner of 11 SA Rally titles, six SA circuit racing titles and the Daytona 24 Hours.
It’s been confirmed that SuperVan will be racing Willie Ras’ Cosworth-powered Mk1 Escort ‘Witblitz’ in the Millstock Pre 80 and 90 Classic and Invitation races, and he will also be racing one of the Du Toit ‘big banger’ classic V8s from Zwartkops in the Pre 66 Production Car & Little Giants races. This is not a parade; expect fireworks.
