29 Sep PROTEST ACTION AT KILLARNEY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
A small number of spinning enthusiasts blockaded the gates at Killarney International Raceway on the morning of Saturday 25 September, preventing Western Province Motor Club members from accessing the circuit for the day’s motorsport events.
Killarney International Raceway is a multi-purpose facility, built up over more than seven decades by the members of the Western Province Motor Club, without external funding. It caters for a wide variety of motorsport events including spinning, with the next spinning event at Killarney scheduled for Saturday 20 November.
Des Easom, executive manager of the Western Province Motor Club, received a memorandum from the protesters in which they demanded that the Western Province Motor Club make more dates available for spinning events at Killarney.
He undertook to present the memorandum to the Management Committee of the Western Province Motor Club for consideration and a response.
The protesters then dispersed and the Club members were able to gain access to proceed with the day’s activities.
