RACE REVIEW – DRAG RACING 25 JUNE 2022

PREPARATION PAYS OFF AT MSA DRAGS

The MSA Drag Racing event at Killarney on Saturday 25 June was notable for the high level of preparation of most of the vehicles entered, which paid off with very few breakdowns and even fewer liquid spills on the strip, resulting in a superb day’s racing for competitors and spectators alike.

Star status for the day went to Talha Daniels and his “Barrascort”, whose best run of 8.81821 seconds at 238.47km/h was beaten only by the lone motorcycle entry, Wynand van der Berg’s carbon fibre-bodied Suzuki GSX-R1000, which scorched through the lights in 8.64632 seconds at 243.55km/h.

The Barrascort deservedly aced the headline OS class, almost a second quicker than Yaseen Ebrahim’s Nissan GTR R35 (9.59600 seconds at 241.84 km/h), with Scott Wyness third in his Volkswagen Caddy bakkie with a best effort of 9.91659 seconds at 227.00km/h.

Lyle Africa’s Civic just beat Shaun Zurich’s similar Honda for Class OA honours, posting 10.71683 seconds at 207.43km/h to Zurich’s 10.74119 seconds at 205.95km/h.

Mierwaan Thomas led Class 6S in his BMW M3, recording a creditable 10.64877 second pass at 225.77km/h, while Class 4S belonged to Niaz Khan’s Honda V-Tec with a quickest run of 11.57668 seconds at 199.56km/h, and Adam Omar clinched Class 4A with a best effort of 13.14122 seconds at 168.57km/h. And finally, Ilyaaz Alawie, the sole entry in the Street-Legal category, posted a no-fuss 12.85008 second pass at 176.83km/h in his Mercedes Benz CLA 45.
