STREETRACING & DRAG RACING AT KILLARNEY
Killarney regularly hosts Club Drag Racing, Robot Racing and Street Car Track Days with many competitors from all over the Western Cape and as far away as George and Knysna. Many of these events are given a name and identity with added promotion and attractions resulting in bigger entries and more interest from spectators.
These events provide a great introduction into motorsport, where competitors can use their own road legal cars on the circuit, without too much hassle and costs. For instance, the entry fee to participate in our Wednesday evening Robot Racing quarter-mile events is the same as the spectator ticket price – just R70 via TicketMaster and R100 at the gate!

Slightly more formal are the Street2Strip events, where we set up the ‘Christmas Tree’ lights on the start line of the drag strip so that participants can get a taste of real American style drag racing.

The WPMC Club Drag Racing events offer the faster drivers the chance to strut their stuff, under the banner of Motorsport South Africa, with all the licences and medical cover in place. The queues are usually shorter at these more formal events, allowing these competitors more runs and less standing time.

We often run bigger events with added promotion and other added attractions; this always results in more competitors and spectators.
STREET CAR TRACK DAYS
Our Street Car Track Days often attract some special cars; it’s not unusual to see supercars such as Ferraris, Porsches, Audi R8s and McLarens. Each event has three groups, accommodating everyone from the first timer to the pro racer in his street car.
Registration opens approximately 30 minutes before the start of the event; drivers are allocated into three groups on the day, catering for beginners, intermediate and pro drivers. Each group runs approximately 15 minute sessions, until the final hour, when all the groups are combined.
A Drivers’ Briefing is held at the base of the control tower, which explains the running procedures of the day as well as various safety items, the meanings of the flags and what to look out for when driving your vehicle at high speeds around the circuit.
Safety requirements include long sleeved tops, long trousers, closed shoes, a crash helmet and a valid driving licence. Vehicles will also be required to pass a safety check before going onto the circuit, everything must be in good working order.
Fees (VAT inclusive):
– R760 per driver if not a member of the WPMC,
– R610 for WPMC members (must produce membership book),
– R230 for passengers.
Noise levels
– No excessively loud vehicles are allowed at Killarney.
– The organisers conduct sound tests and reserve the right to stop further participation if, at the organisers’ sole discretion, your car is excessively loud.
– Entry fees will not be refunded should your car be too noisy.
