DES EASOM HONOURED WITH THE EDGAR HOAL AWARDS

However, since the AGM was held in a purely digital format, the award was presented during the lunch break at Round 5 of the Power Series on Saturday 10 July.
This prestigious honour, named after the man who laid out the circuit as we know it in 1960, is not awarded every year. It is only awarded when a Club member official or official stands truly head and shoulders above his fellows for his exceptional service to the Club.
As Clerk of the Course Emeritus Brian Hoskins, a member of the Awards Committee, said in his presentation at the award ceremony, without Des’ outstanding leadership and dedicated effort throughout the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic it is very possible that the Western Province Motor Club would no longer exist.
The impact on Killarney of five months of total lockdown and nearly a year of seriously curtailed activity at Killarney has been even worse than the fuel crisis of 1973, yet Des has kept the home of motorsport in the Western Cape alive in the face of severe challenges.
He has achieved a major reduction in the rates payable for the venue, along with significant progress in obtaining a new lease for Killarney, all the while placing the strongest possible emphasis on the health and well-being of all those members of the Killarney family who access the facility for racing or to work here.
That family is please to recognise his exceptional contribution to the Club with this very special award.
