RACE REPORT BY HAYLEY – SPINS AND SHAMBLES: ROUND 2 OF KILLARNEY KARTING – 01 March 2025

Round 2 of WPMC Regional Karting at Killarney on Saturday 1 March got off to a dramatic start when a reformation was called for and confusion struck amongst the drivers.

Yaseen Panday accidently collided with Ashlyn Beaumont and pit marshal Michelle Matthews during a racing incident at the false start. Fortunately, no one was injured, but Panday was sent home for the day.

After the restart Divaaj Govender took the win, posting a best lap of 58.623 seconds, with Beaumont second and Aleena Doutie third.

The first Senior Max was smooth sailing throughout their 15 laps, as Luca Wehrli crossed the finish line in first place ahead of Keagan Beaumont and Jordan Wadely third. Beaumont, however, posted the fastest lap at 41.087 seconds.

Clubmans Race 1 saw Charlie Millar lose control and spin inside the 180s on his second last lap, dropping him to eighth; the winner was Kyle Visser, with Christopher Flack second and Sean le Riche third place. Visser was awarded best lap time with 42.722 seconds.

During Micro Max’s second race, Mia Hermanus and Lehan Fourie touched inside of the 180s causing both karts to spin off the track before rejoining in their previous positions. Yaqueen Gamieldien won Race 2, with Ebrahim Khalpey following in second and Jake Steyn third.

Mini Rok driver Max Boshoff lost power entering the 180s on the first lap of Race 2, dropping him from third to last. As the race went on, however, he clawed back one spot, finishing fourth behind Jose Slamet, Logan Roehrig and Max’s brother Zac.

Senior Max’s Tristan Botha did not finish his second race as he collided with the tyre barrier inside the 180s on lap 10, following an unfortunate nose cone penalty in Race 1. Jordan Wadely lost his front bumper colliding with another kart through the 180s on his second last lap but managed to retrieve it before the race ended.

Luca Wehrli came home first, posting a best lap of 41.230 seconds, with Keagan Beaumont second and Jesse Swart third.

Mini Max karter Liam Wharton lost control and spun as he was about to cross the start /finish line on his first lap, dropping him to ninth although he posted the fastest lap time of the race at 44.094 seconds.

Max Boshoff won with brother Zac close behind in second and Jayden van der Merwe third.

The start of the OKJ/OKN category’s third race was interesting as most of the karters stepped on each other’s tails crossing the start/finish line on the first lap. Ethan Lennon finished first with a best lap of 40.794 seconds; Aleksander Praizovic was second and Onwabile Mcinga third.

Race 3 in Junior Max went smoothly for everybody except Raffeale Musso who failed to finish. Sebastiano Human took the win ahead of Caleb Moss and Nicholas Lennox.

The DD2/M category closed the day with a hassle-free race, won by Jason Coetzee from Sebastian Boyd and Joseph Oelz.

Be sure not to miss the next round of Regional Karting on May 3, 2025. See you then!
