22 Jul RACE REPORT BY HAYLEY – DRAMA AND DUST UPS AT KILLARNEY KARTING – 19 JULY 2025

DRAMA AND DUST UPS AT KILLARNEY KARTING
On Saturday 19 July, Round 5 of Regional Karting took place at Killarney’s Kart Circuit. Even though it was a cold, seven degrees Celsius in the morning, the day’s racing brought on some hot action!
Free Practice was full of slips and spins in the Bambino category, who recently obtained a total of four new competitors.
A heart-warming moment occurred when Vihaan Govender from the Bambino category spun out on the inside of the 180s during Free Practice and a marshal carried him back to safety, as seen pictured below.
Bambino’s Race 1 went down smoothly with little to no altercations between the grid. Divaaj Govender completed Race 1 in first place with a best lap time of 57.533 seconds, Emelee Adriaans followed closely behind him with a best lap time of 58.261 seconds and Aleena Doutie in third place with a time of 59.184 seconds.
Similar to that of Bambino’s, the DD2/M category had no disputes and finished a level Race 1 with Sebastian Boyd in the lead with a best lap time of 40.107 seconds, Joseph Oelz following closely behind with a best lap time of 40.011 seconds and Anwil April in third with a best lap time of 40.104 seconds.
Madness ensued during Clubman’s Race 1 and Senior and Junior Max Race 2 as altercation after altercation followed. Clubman’s competitors – Guy Lanfear and daughter, Jade Lanfear – touched in the 180s causing an altercation. Seconds later, Guy and Carel van der Merwe’s karts landed on top of one another in turn three on the next lap, resulting in them finishing at the back of the pack.
Sean le Riche finished first with a best lap time of 42.998 seconds, with Christopher Flack (43.297 seconds) behind him in second and Luke Rens (43.643 seconds) in third.
A massive pile up blocked the exit of the 180s due to a kart spinning during Senior and Junior Max’s Race 2. A slow procedure, karting’s version of a Virtual Safety Car, began with a few confused competitors trying to race the kart in front of them. This caused Tristan Botha to hit the tyre barrier on the left of the circuit with his nose cone and made him spin on to the green hill.
Medics were called to assist Botha, and a red flag was called for the race to restart; Amani Kinyua (40.832 seconds) took the chequered flag in first with Luca Wehrli (40.703 seconds) close behind and Charl Visser (40.728 seconds) third.
OKJ/OKN’s Race 2 ran smoothly compared to the last few races experienced, other than a jumped start by Emile van der Wateren; the resulting five-second penalty dropped him from second to third behind William Marshall (40.321 seconds) and Onwabile Mcinga (40.874 seconds).
Race 3 of the Micro Max and Mini Max category surprisingly had no faults throughout their heats. The winner of the Micro Max category was Logan Roehrig (44.462 seconds), with Yaqeen Gamieldien (44.533 seconds) second and Jake Steyn (44.512 seconds) third.
Mini Max’s top three was as follows: Siblings, Zac (43.699 seconds) and Max (44.003 seconds) Boshoff took first and second respectively with Liam Wharton (43.920 seconds) in third. Props to Zac for his maiden victory in this class!
Mini Rok had an interesting start to their last race of the day as Esa Anthony, a competitor visiting from Saudi Arabia, was allowed through the tyre barriers in order to catch up with the rest of the field on the warmup lap.
To end the day off, Mini Rok gifted us an easygoing Race 3, with the Boshoff siblings finishing in the top three again – Max (46.033 seconds) in first and Zac (46.876 seconds) in third – sandwiching Michael O’Mahoney (46.771 seconds) in second.
It’s safe to say that it was an interesting day of karting, you don’t want to miss the next one, see you there!
