UPS & DOWNS AT ROUND 6 OF KILLARNEY’S SHORT CIRCUIT

A chilly and cloudy morning on Saturday, 21 June, made for a slightly wet track, delaying the day’s racing of Short Circuit Round 6 by half an hour.

The Fairfield Meat Centre 125 Juniors & Seniors had an interesting start to their first heat as Ewert Koortz went off throttle on his first lap, completing only turns one and two before pulling in at the Oval due to a mechanical failure.

Nathan Waddington finished first with a best lap time of 1:02.487 seconds, Julian Ferreira followed closely behind in second with a best lap time of 1:03.585 seconds and Christopher Veldhuis was third with a best lap time of 1:04.073 seconds.

Club Sport and Super Motards suffered from a ‘Groundhog Day’ moment as Koortz experienced the same problem on his second lap as he did on his first in the 125s, pulling into the Oval for a second DNF.

Keagan Bontekoning crossed the finish line for Super Motards in first place with a best lap time of 56.405 seconds, followed by James Strahlendorf (57.256 seconds) and Benji Hobley (57.533 seconds).

The Club Sport classification saw Abigail Bosson first across the line, with a best lap time of 58.416 seconds, ahead of Slade van Niekerk (57.842 seconds) and Bradley Mustoe (58.416 seconds).

Nicholas Hutching put in a smooth and hassle-free ride to take Heat 1 of the 150s Seniors & Masters with a best lap of 57.681 seconds, with rival James Strahlendorff (58.740 seconds) second and Robin de Vos (59.137 seconds) third.

The Fairfield Meat Centre 125 Juniors & Seniors formation lap came to an abrupt halt as over-eager Nathan Waddington fell entering the S’s. Medics responded and the bike was moved behind the barriers; it was later reported that Waddington had injured his collarbone.

The field was given a second warm-up lap for their second heat of the day but, because things always happen in three, Ewert Koorts pulled into the Oval to DNF for a third time!

When the second heat finally got underway, Mario Ferreira led the way, posting a best effort of 1min 02.095, with Jaques Ackerman (1min02.537) second and Christopher Veldhuis (1min02.921) third.

The Club Sport and Super Motards Class had a relaxed second race, compared to the 125s. The Super Motards class saw Keagan Bontekoning (54.528 seconds) come home first with Benji Hobley (55.253 seconds) second and James Strahlendorf (5.422 seconds) third.

Slade van Niekerk (56.594 seconds) took Club Sport honours with Abigail Bosson (57.149 seconds) second and Bradley Mustoe (58.878 seconds) third.

The top three for the 150s were Nicholas Hutchings (57.072 seconds), James Strahlendorff (57.857 seconds) second and Robin de Vos (58.790 seconds) third.

Heat 3 of the Fairfield Meat Centre 125 Juniors & Seniors delivered tight but incident-free racing between race leaders Mario Ferreira (1min 02.206) and Jaques Ackermann (1min 01.561) who finished in that order. Christopher Veldhuis followed closely behind in third with a best time of 1min02.680.

Club Sport and Super Motards had a smooth Heat 3 with Super Motards honours going to Keagan Bontekoning (54.266 seconds), ahead of James Strahlendorff (55.134 seconds) and Benji Hobley (54.772 seconds).

Club Sport’s Slade van Niekerk (+56.562) won his class again with Bradley Mustoe (58.765 seconds) just milliseconds behind him at the line, and Robin de Vos (58.856 seconds) third.

Nicholas Hutchings had a slight delay at the start of Heat 3 for the 150s Seniors & Masters but fought back to take the win with a best lap time of 57.131 seconds, beating James Strahlendorff  (57.868 seconds) and Robin de Vos (58.261 seconds) to the flag.
