11 Aug RACE REPORT BY HAYLEY – KARTING RND 6 – 21 JUNE 2025

Slips and spins were the order of the morning during free practice and qualifying at Round 6 of Regional Karting at Killarney on Saturday 9 August.
With weather forecasters predicting heavy rain, Clerk of the Course Luan Oelofse and officials were unsure as to how the day’s racing would turn out.
Racing, however, continued as usual with Race 1 of the Micro Max category starting at 11h00. Other than some pushing and shoving of karts between Yaqueen Gamieldien and Logan Roehrig, the race went smoothly with Gamieldien (44.604 seconds) taking first place while Roehrig (44.701 seconds) came home second and Radhi Harris (44.587 seconds) finished third.
During Race 1 of the Mini Max category, Michael O’Mahoney’s transponder was reported faulty; the race was red-flagged. However, chaos ensued at the restart, causing a second red flag to be called.
Then, at the second restart of Mini Max’s Race 1, jumpstarts occurred due to the lights going out too late. Ruhan Victor spun off entering the 180s resulting in a DNF while Justin Milleskie spun exiting the 180s and continued racing, before spinning as he entered the 180s – again! Alanzo Diaz joined them as he went off track entering the 180s too.
O’Mahoney (56.952 seconds) took the chequered flag with Liam Wharton (56.867 seconds) second and Jayden van der Merwe (58.212 seconds) third.
Racing was suspended after Race 1 of the DD2 and DD2 Masters category, as the rain started bucketing down, leading to its cancellation at 14:56 due to the track being flooded.
An unsuccessful, yet interesting days’ worth of racing – Assistant C.O.C, Craig Lovett, even transformed into a Marshal close to the end of the day! – had come to an end, much to the dismay of many competitors.
Be sure not to miss the next round of Karting on Saturday, 20 September. See you then!
