RIP BERNARD TILANUS

RIP BERNARD TILANUS

We join the local and international racing community in mourning the passing of former South African Race Driving Champion, Bernard Tilanus.

Bernard was a titan of the sport. His career was marked by immense success, including his 1976 South African Formula Ford Championship and his crowning achievement as the 1981 South African Driver’s Champion in the prestigious Formula Atlantic series.

Even in his later years, Bernard’s competitive spirit remained undimmed. At the age of 57, he returned to the track to secure the 2002 South African Shelby Can-Am title, proving that his skill and pace were truly timeless.

Beyond his prowess behind the wheel, Bernard was a respected figure whose influence spanned from the technical fields of engineering to the global business stage. His presence in the paddock, characterized by fierce determination and professional integrity, will be deeply missed.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Jean, his daughters Candy and Samantha, and the extended Tilanus family during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Bernard Tilanus – Motorsport South Africa
