RIP PHILIP VAN TUBBERGH

RIP PHILIP VAN TUBBERGH

It is with great sadness that I share the news that my bother Philip Van Tubbergh passed away on Sunday (24th August), suffering a heart attack while out running.

Although not an active competitor since the mid eighties where he raced karts at Killarney for about seven years, he was active on this page and other WPMC Facebook pages commenting on photos and posts from the past.

It really boggles my brain as to all the knowledge and motorsport information he had “gathered” over the years.

Even though he had moved to the USA at the beginning of 1996, he maintained his interest in South African motorsport and motorsport in general. After most race meetings, that either he or I had attended, we would have a “catch-up” chat / discussion.

One of his highlight motorsport events that he attended was the double header NASCAR & Indy event at Indianapolis Speedway where he was privileged to get a passenger ride in the two-seater Indy car and was also on the grid for all the formalities before the race started. The photo that I’m including is from that event.

Philip is survived by his wife Linda and their four children, our mom (Aunty Val from Killarney’s kitchen), my sister and myself.
