19 Sep RIP ROBERT WOLK

South African motorsport is reeling in profound shock at the passing of Robert Wolk under tragic circumstances on Wednesday 16 September, at the age of only 41.
His racing career spanned almost three decades, starting in karts, where he won the South African Junior GP Kart Championship in 1995 and 1997 and was awarded South African Junior Protea Colours in 1998.
He went on to win multiple Formula Ford championships, the 2013 SA Formula Volkswagen Championship and the 2015 SA Single-Seaters title.
A multi-talented and consummate professional, he was just as successful in Touring Cars as he was in single-seaters, winning back-to-back SA GTC championships in 2021 and 2022, which led to the award of South African Senior Protea Colours in 2022.
Even nearing his forties, Rob showed no sign of slowing down, adding the 2024 SA Touring Cars championship to his long list of lifetime achievements.
He won his class at the 2025 Zwartkops Top of the Hill time attack and took a second King of the Hill title at this year’s Simola Hill Climb with a blistering 35.24-second run in his Gould GR55.
And then he returned to Touring cars, scoring a race win at Aldo Scribante in June. He was due to race at Killarney this weekend, which makes his tragic absence all the more painful for all of us here.
Robbie Wolk will be remembered in paddocks around the country as a gentle, humble and genuinely kind person, who brought passion, commitment and sportsmanship to his chosen sport.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Donné, the Wolk family, and his friends, team-mates and colleagues in this incredibly difficult time. He will be sorely missed.
