RIP THAAKIER ABRAHAMS

RIP THAAKIER ABRAHAMS

There’s a special sadness in losing a young friend who should have had most of his life ahead of him, no matter what the cause.  It was with that sense of a life cut short, of unfinished business, that we learned on Friday 14 November that drag racing star Thaakier Abrahams had finally lost his battle against cancer.

He was just 34 years old.

Thaakier was thin and drawn the last time we saw him, at Bragging Rights on the fourth of October – but there was nothing wrong with his right hand, or his characteristic grin, as he battled with Reece Robertson for the Fastest Time of the Day – eventually taking the win by one thousandth of a second!

And that’s how we’ll remember Thaakier, the racer who never gave up and hung on the cables right to the end, as our hearts go out the Zahra and the children, and to the extended Abrahams family.
