TRUCKERS CANSA RUN – 24 OCTOBER 2021

TRUCKERS FROM ALL OVER SOUTH AFRICA SUPPORT CANSA RUN

You could hear them from several kilometres away, as a convoy of more than 80 trucks, horns blaring, made their way to Killarney on Sunday 24 October for the annual Truckers Cansa Run. They came from all over South Africa, bearing number plates that said MP, GP, NW and even KZN, because event this is all about family.

It’s about the country-wide family of long-haul truckers getting together to help the families of children with cancer, donating hundreds of soft toys to the Cancer Association of South Africa for distribution in oncology wards in hospitals throughout the country, wherever there are children fighting life-threatening iIlness.

But it’s also about the truckers’ families. Life on the road can be lonely, and this annual event is one of the few occasions when truckers can share that life with their partners and children – and with the more than 40 bikers who escorted the convey from the Engen Winelands N1 truck stop to Killarney, to enjoy food stalls, loud music and ice-cold drinks on a warm spring day.

Yes, they almost filled a five-ton skip with soft toys of every description – but just as important was the sense of camaraderie, of being with the people who understand why the open road gets in your blood and in your head.

And for all these reasons, Killarney is proud to host this event.
