UPDATED 2020 WORLD RALLYCROSS CALENDAR RELEASED

The provisionally updated 2020 World Rallycross Championship calendar has been released by series promoter IMG. It will kick off at Holjes in Sweden on the weekend of 20-23 August and includes nine rounds, all but two of them in Europe.

The exceptions are Rounds 7 and 8, which will be run in one intense weekend at the end of October at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, followed by the season finale at the Nurburgring from 11-13 December.

Sadly, there is no World Rallycross event scheduled for Cape Town in 2020. IMG has emphasised, however, that this is no reflection on the high quality of the World Rallycross events run at Killarney Interantional Raceway in previous years, but only because there will be no time during the short season of only 21 weeks to ship the cars to South Africa and back again.

The 2020 World Rallycross of South Africa has not been cancelled but instead postponed to the 2021 season. The events agreed upon in the two-year extension announced in 2019 between IMG, local organiser Worldsport South Africa and the City of Cape Town will thus take place in 2021 and 2022.

Clerk of the Course Arlene Brown has pointed out that this is probably for the best given that our health authorities are predicting that our pandemic will only peak in about September.

She thanked everyone who volunteered to officiate at previous World Rallycross of South Africa events and indicated their willingness to be a part of World Rallycross at Killarney in 2020.

“We will just have to keep our excitement at bay until 2021,” she said.
