WHEN THE EXHAUSTS FALL SILENT AT KILLARNEY ON SATURDAY
Once the exhausts fall silent at Killarney, as the sun gets low in the western sky on Saturday, those involved in the meeting of the Wingfield Motors sponsored Power Series, with Ford and all their fun loving Friends, can look forward to an evening crammed with light-hearted entertainment.
Of course, it is all due to start some time before that – on Thursday in fact. Because that’s when a less than formal dinner, together with appropriate diversions, is due to be held at the clubhouse in honour of the legendary Sarel van der Merwe. Unfortunately, this one has proved to be a high speed sell-out and no more tickets are available.
More serious practice sessions and qualifying for grid positions, will then be held on Friday. A full day of exciting racing scheduled for Saturday, is going to include the popular Fanwalk during the lunch break when Sarel and all the other legends of a bygone era, will be available for autographs, or to have their pictures taken in the company of “selfie” shutterbugs.
A free shuttle service will be available throughout the day for those who would like to test other vantage points and recent changes to the spectator facilities, or to see what is happening at the clubhouse.
But before the chequered flag has eventually been waved for the last time, the Springboks and the dreaded All Blacks will be in action on a big screen behind the clubhouse, as well as well as on many others in the pubs.
This will be followed by a braai after the prizegiving, with a live band in boisterous attendance.
And all this for an (initial), adult outlay of just R80. Scholars under 16 will be admitted for R20, but there is no charge for kiddies under 12.
