WHO WAS CROWNED KING OF KILLARNEY?

The Killarney Time Attack, powered by MasterDrive and in association with Smile 90.4 FM, had a different ambiance in the air on Saturday, 20 September.

With 50 entries for the day, some of them being renowned racing drivers from all around the country – Guy Davies and Franco Scribante to name but two – the excitement was electrifying!

Tristan Pienaar snatched first place from Kewyn Snyman in the Motorcycle Shootout with a 1.591 second gap as the Honda CBR’s crossed the finish line, Juan Momberg took to the line in third with a 4.968 second gap between his Suzuki and Snyman.

Ryan Louw’s black Porsche 992 GT3 rumbled all the way down the opposite way of the track as he set a best lap time of 56.093 seconds, taking first place in the Road Car Shootout. Matthew o’ Connel scored second place with a best lap time of 1:01.242 in his Harper Type 5 with Tousseef Haroun’s BMW F82 M4 following closely behind in third place with a 0.040 second gap.

Cape Town’s very own superstar, Nian du Toit – who raced two different cars on the day, took home the Race Car shootout win in his BMW E36 328 Turbo while peer, Mansoor Parker, came home second with a gap of 6.943 seconds behind the leader in his BMW M3 e46, and 0.557 seconds ahead of Marco Retter in his BMW E36 3.0L.

A second win for du Toit came in the Sport and GT Shootout as he raced Dawie Joubert’s Lotus Exige into epiphany with a best lap time of 49.247 seconds around the 2.1 km Time Attack Track. Franco Scribante, who was directly behind him with a 57.701 best lap time in the Chevron B19, came home second. Mr. Thys Volschenk came home third, 9 seconds behind Scribante in his Audi S2 Quattro.

A third and final win approached du Toit as he was crowned the King of Killarney! Nian raced to the finish line with a best lap time of 48.995 seconds in the Exige while his doppelganger in the BMW E36 328 Turbo swiftly took second place from Franco Scribante in his Chevron. Both Nian and Franco scored a best lap time of 52.530 and 54.196 respectively.
